Sorrow about the biggest natural disaster in Sri Lanka since the 2004 Tsunami devastation is deeply felt, and shared. โWe share the deep sorrow of the families of the victims who perished in the Koslanda landslide.
And we pray for allโ states Rishad Bathiudeen (Minister of Industry and Commerce and Leader, ACMC) on 29 October in his brief press statement, which is reproduced in full below:
โThe Koslanda Natural Disaster of 29 October 2014
Natural disasters are not new to Sri Lanka. The devastating 2004 Tsunami which is the biggest such disaster to affect the country, has left thousands destitute, and everyone in Sri Lanka grieved for the victims and the helpless. The landslide that took place today 29 October at Meeriyabedda area in Koslanda in Badulla District, which left hundreds missing and more than 15 confirmed dead by afternoon of today, is the biggest natural disaster to strike since the 2004โs deadly Tsunami. We are still very hopeful the number of dead would not rise above what is reported as of now. We share the deep sorrow of the families of the victims who perished in theKoslanda landslide and sympathise of the helplessness of the affected-We pray for all and would also appeal other Sri Lankans too to sympathise and assist in any possible way.โ
