The Mullaitivu District’s DCC meeting was held on 03 Septemberย from 3.00pm to 7.00pm with many questions, discussions and dialogues taking place.
Minister Rishad Bathiudeen (Vanni District MP) and Chief Minister of Northern Province V Wigneshwaran were the leaders of 03 September session. Also taking part were public representatives of Northern Province, MPs, Military officials and members from the Police.
At the session,ย the Provincial Council MPsย inquired as to whyย the livestock belonging to the public and farmers, specially cattle, were capturedย by certain members of defence sector (without the permission of the farmers).
As a result of this question, strong arguments ensued and as a result of the prompt intervention by Minister Bathiudeen, an amicable understanding was reached between the arguing parties and calm prevailed.
It was thereafter agreed that to hold another meeting on 09 September to decide as to how to return the captured livestock to its rightful owners.
Also discussions took placeย on illegal fishing and encroachment of land in the Northern Province.
