Sri Lankaโs first mass media outlet aimed at the countryโs 1.9 Mn Muslim community was unveiled on 16 December in Colombo.
The operator of Sri Lankaโs first mass media outlet exclusively focused on the countryโs Muslim community is National News Agency Ltd.
National News Agency would operate the Tamil language Serendib TV Channel (the first ever TV channel to totally focus on Lankan Muslims), Tamil language daily newspaper โSerendibโ (the first ever daily Tamil newspaper for Lankan Muslims), and Serendib Radio Channel (the first ever radio channel for Lankan Muslims), all exclusively aimed at the Muslim community of Sri Lanka.
Also present at the launch of Serendib TV, newspaper and Radio Channel at Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo on 16 December were Basil Rajapaksa (Economic Development Minister),
Rishad Bathiudeen (Minister of Industry and Commerce), Karu Jayasuriya (Member of Parliament), M Imtiaz (Chairman, National News Agency Ltd, operating firm of Serendib TV and media), Bin Saleh Al Dawood (Representative of World Muslim League), A. J. M. Muzammil (Mayor of Colombo), Faiz Mustafa (Senior Presidentโs Counsel), Rauf Hakeen (Minister of Justice) as well as many members of the diplomatic community in Colombo.
