Addressing candidates contesting at the Local Government (LG) elections in the Trincomalee District on behalf of All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), party leader and minister, Rishad Bathiudeen said that he was confident of his party’s overwhelming victory.

He was of the opinion that constituents are fed up with casting their votes for the tree and elephant symbol and will be casting their votes for his party symbol – the peacock. Therefore, they are assured of victory wherever they contest in the Trincomalee District.

Bathiudeen met the candidates along with their supporters in Trincomalee and delivered his address. He said ACMC has decided to contest in 10 Local Councils in Trincomalee for the first time and that people of the district have assured them of their fullest support as they are now frustrated with the other parties.

He went on to say that a cross section of citizens, irrespective of caste or creed have joined them in their thousands. And it was the party’s duty to safeguard them.

Bathiudeen also said that those who come forward for social work should be genuine, hardworking and sincere and ever prepared to work for the common people at any time.

In his speech, he said that those who work for people in disadvantaged areas, such as those recovering from the war should work hard to rebuild national reconciliation. People are fed up because politicians who served in such places have failed in this regard.

“We are very happy here because we have selected candidates from all three communities who are formidable and prepared to work for the people,” he added

The meeting was chaired by Member of Parliament for Trincomalee District, Abdulla Mahroof and was also attended by Deputy Minister and Chairman of the Party, M.M.S. Ameer Ali, Party Secretary S. Subaideen and candidates.
