Boundaries canโ€™t cause divisions in country – President

President Maithripala Sirisena said in Kilinochchi yesterday that demographic descriptions like the North, South, East and West exist only on maps and that all should move forward bearing in mind that we live in one country. โ€œNeither law nor boundaries can cause divisions in the country,โ€ the President said. He was speaking at a ceremony held in Kilinochchi town to open a modern supermarket-style Sathosa Mega Complex for the district.

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen was also present on the occasion.

โ€œEvery citizen shall have the right to live freely with their fundamental freedoms guaranteed. he present government is dedicated to protecting and promoting these rights and freedoms. We seek to achieve an optimal level of functioning in regard to the protection of fundamental freedoms of all persons,โ€said President Maithripala Sirisena .

President Sirisena while reminding how he and the government had been working hard to fulfill the peopleโ€™s expectations, he promised to continue with that programme with the formation of a new government following the general election.

โ€œ Every citizen shall receive facilities on an equal footing. The government is dedicated to developing the North just as much it is dedicated to develop the South,โ€ the President said. โ€œInfrastructure, health, education and all the facilities will be vigourously developed in the North,โ€ he added.

The President also requested farmers in the North to support him with the Indigenous Food Production Programme which he said would go ahead with the election of a new government at the forthcoming polls.
